If you, like many of us, have attempted to set New Years resolutions by setting goals for a year, only to forget about them two month into the year, then this type of planning is for you.

Research has shown that 80% of people abandon and never reach their new year resolutions. The problem is not the people, but the approach that people take towards goal planning.

Long term planning almost never works. Think back through your planning journey.  When was the last time you set a long term goal and achieved it on time? If you ever did, you are definitely in the minority. Most of us mortals always have something come up, that either distracts us from the goals or takes us in a completely different path.

Using the shorter intervals of thirteen weeks (three months) you set a specific deadline that is a short time away for goal achievement.

At the end of the three months you will reevaluate the goals and readjust the steps to continue on the journey to greatness.  At the end of the three months you can also reevaluate to determine if you still want to pursue the goal. It is your goal in the end, and therefore, you can determine whether or not you want to continue. You will save yourself much time and headaches by cutting out some goals early on.  You can focus on the goals most meaningful to you, rather than pursuing something that no longer fits your personal mission objective.

To make the three months goals achievable the key is to break them down into three week increments.

If you ever worked with software development you may recognize this approach as the Agile Framework or Scrum. It is a powerful approach to reaching goals by focusing on smaller intervals that can be developed independently.

The key is to master the game of taking one big goal and breaking it down into smaller steps.

When researching the great historical figures this approach continued to fit perfectly with everything that these great people of our history did in order to achieve their greatness.

This approach allows for learning, and for always looking for a better way to reach a goal.   Therefore, even though this framework was pulled together for software development, in reality it is the approach that people have used over millennia to reach their goals.

You can make your dreams a reality, one step at a time.
